Handle With Prayer
Book Overview: Handle With Prayer by Alan Cohen
Recently we have been reading Handle with Prayer and wanted to share some of his inspired words with you to start off the New Year right! Handle with Prayer is a little book packed with wonderful suggestions for how we can commune with the Source of Life by whatever name you choose to call it. Alan has put together meaningful prayers and suggestions with such a sense of heart and spirit! It makes using this book an uplifting daily experience that is truly a pleasure to read. Often times – along these lines – you will find a book that is too lengthy and long-winded to serve the purpose well.
Alan is somehow able to inspire you using a few well-chosen words illustrated meaningfully with appropriate stories interspersed along the way. We are effortlessly and definitely brought into an alignment with what prayer really is and really means in order to better our lives and also to make a contribution to life in general. No matter what the issue is that we are dealing with there are prayer suggestions; whether it’s healing body, soul, employment, relationships or your financial situation. No matter what your status or situation in life at the moment, this book is well worth reading again and again because each paragraph and each of the chapters is short and to the point and filled with meaningful suggestions.

The book is inspirational, encouraging and easy to process.” • “I found this book to be profoundly helpful in stressful moments. Prayer is so powerful and with this book, you realize you can talk to God just like you talk to your best friend. Actually, He is your best friend and this book is a must have for anyone looking for Heaven on Earth.”
Here’s an example of an essential prayer that I feel can be used most anytime, “I open myself to the presence of a Higher Power, and I place my difficulties in the hands of God. I step back and allow the truth of love to guide me, and I surrender to a will that bolsters me. I am aligned with the Force of Love that knows the well-being of all living things. Thank you, God, for taking care of me in ways that I cannot comprehend. I accept and celebrate Your presence and love in all that I do.” Alan Cohen masterfully weaves his ideas of prayer with snippets from the Bible or ideas expressed by Jesus. For instance, “Jesus taught this master principle in a hundred different ways, yet in the two thousand years since he declared it, only a few have grasped it and made it work on their behalf. Now you can be among them. Practice thinking, feeling, speaking, and acting as if your dreams have already come true, and you shall hasten them to your doorstep.”
Good advice is provided along the lines of The Secret, “You can quicken the manifestation of a future event by concentrating on it now. Focusing your mind on what you would like to come about (or obsessing about what you would not like to come about) is like throwing a fishing line into the future and reeling your object into the present.” I especially like his idea concerning what the Game of Life is really all about! The game of life is to tap into that Higher Power and use it for our own good and the betterment of humanity. Once we realize that we have access to a Force far more vast than any the human mind could fabricate, we have latched onto the energy that will make our life new and change us forever.”
Appreciation is the Cure for Depression and Self-Pity! “If you should feel depressed or begin to pity yourself, the fastest way to restore your vitality is to go on an “appreciation rampage.” Write, speak, and mentally note anything that comes to mind that you are thankful for. Be sure to include the “little” things (which are not so little), such as seeing a bird feeding its young, or receiving a sincere compliment from a friend. Soon you will realize that, no matter what else has happened, your day has been filled with blessings and miracles.” How to Expand Your Good! “One of the most powerful ways to expand your attitude of gratitude is to bless the good that befalls others.
The ego tends to begrudge the good that others receive, as we feel envious or “less than” because they received something we wanted. Yet even a little reflection will show how self-defeating this attitude is. No one else’s good can take away from yours; the happiness of another can only add to your own. We act as if there were only so much love, money, or blessings in the universe, and when someone else receives something wonderful, our chances are diminished. It is exactly the opposite. Instead of cursing another as a detractor from your good, bless this person as a harbinger of your own miracles.” “When you think, act, and live as if your prayers are already answered, you become a living magnet for your good. Let the answer be more real than the problem. Daily visit in consciousness the place where your dreams live. This realm is no farther than a thought away, and the more you frequent it, the wider will you build the road by which your prayers return to you with gifts on their wings.”
