There Is No Death: The Extraordinary True Experience of Sarah LaNelle Menet

Book Overview by Steve Freier

There are a number of published books with the same title of There Is No Death. I had been reading one of them when I stumbled across this particular one on Amazon by Sarah LaNelle Menet (published in 2002) Based upon my extensive reading of NDE literature over the years I have to say upfront that I cannot agree with everything Sarah Menet has experienced as Truth. However, as I started to read I became fascinated with her life story and especially with her recounting of the terrible abuse she suffered at the hands of her father while growing up and how that abuse affected her adult life after she left home. Before I started delving into her childhood story I must admit that I found it difficult to imagine that anyone could endure what she went through, especially before I read the details.

Suffice it to say that she did not believe in God; how could she believe in a God who allowed such suffering? And her suffering did not end when she left home. Due to her low self-esteem she attracted abusive relationships with men and also seemingly in every aspect of her adult life. In brief, she just could not catch a

break. And of course, seeing no way out, she eventually decided to “cut to black” as we say in the TV business.

Here’s the hyped introduction from the publisher: “Sarah Menet was pronounced dead but she did not die. Her near death experience (NDE) is one of the most extensive ever recorded. Sarah not only visited the beautiful spirit world, describing the people, their dress, activities, and buildings; but she also visited what could be called "hell" and describes the torment of those committed to that terrible place. She also received answers to many questions such as:

  • Why are terrible things allowed to happen to good people?

  • Is there a purpose to life here on earth?

  • Why is it important to treat others with respect?

  • Is it important to be good?

  • Is there such a thing as deja vu?

  • Is there such a thing as reincarnation?

  • What are some of the difficulties that may lie ahead for us on earth?”

I can agree that Sarah did indeed have a Near Death Experience, and I feel that she really did experience what I would characterize as an experience of the Anteroom or waiting room area which most souls enter right after their transition. It is beautiful and easy to be mistaken for Heaven itself. There she saw Jesus. And after I discovered that she had a Mormon background t made more sense to me tat her entire NDE experience was tainted by her religious exposure as a Morman. In other NDEs I have read, it has become obvious to me that your first experience of heaven will be tainted or colored by whatever your core beliefs have been prior to death. That’s to be expected, however as you become acclimated to heaven you will eventually move on to either higher or, in some cases lower levels. Sarah did not fully die; she felt that there was a thin ‘film’ keeping her from going all the way.

During her heavenly visit Sarah was also shown several future events. She saw tall buildings in New York collapsing amidst smoke and debris and people running years before 9/11. This was the beginning of other calamities which were to include a great plague suddenly striking several cities in the United States, a nuclear war and other devastating events. I agree that it is possible for some NDE experiencers to be shown future events. Dannion Brinkley, author of Saved by the Light, during his NDE claimed to have seen a panorama of multiple visions of possible future Earth events on what appeared to be a matrix of TV screens. The problem with these visions is that they are not ‘carved in stone’ events that will definitely happen, but potential futures.

What Sarah saw as possible terrible future events such as nuclear war, famine, pestilence, etc. may or may not happen. She claims to have seen the event of 9/11 in New York before it happened. I am not going to argue on tat point, and whether or not the rest of her terrifying Christian Fundamentalist Apocalypse predictions will ever happen is debatable. Perhaps the terrible events she saw and wanted so badly to tell the public about is a way to scare humanity into better behavior, which if enough people are able to change course and live in a more loving way, then they won’t have to happen or will be modified downward.

Summary: As one reviewer put it – and I agree – “In the end, it's always up to the reader to decide if the near death experience is believable or not. I've read many, and some I believe and some I don't, and I'm honestly not sure where to put Menet's story. What I am certain of is that this author delivers a "fundamentalist" interpretation of her experience.”

Here’s a summary of what Sarah revealed as the future for us:

  • "Many of the depressed people on the earth today are under the influence of Satan and his evil spirits."

  • "Evil spirits can also use dreams as a means of communication."

  • "...there is no such thing as reincarnation."

  • "Evil music can attract evil spirits..."

  • "People who channel spirits are always taken over or possessed by evil spirits."

  • "People serve Satan's kingdom by acts of sex outside of marriage...[and]...by women wearing revealing clothes..."

If the above statements fit your paradigms, you'll probably like the book and, according to the author, you'll get to heaven. If her NDE and interpretation of her experience are legitimate, I can only hope that there are many doors to heaven as I don't share her views on most of her interpretations. There are hundreds of positive, uplifting NDE stories that I find more believable than this one.
